Logo Story

Some folks who have followed my career closely have noticed I’ve evolved through a few logos in my 30+ years of paddle making.  My paddles were originally called Rivr Styx when I started making them back in 1975. They were all about the river- like the whole sport was back in the old days.  Above is a copy of my original logo.  I would wood burn it on the paddles- but some felt it was a bit hard to read and ‘complicated’.

Then after about 20 years- when I started my first web site- my paddles came to commonly be called “Jimistyx” as people made the connection to me as the sole creator of the paddles.  And I was OK with that- they were made by me exclusively. So- I adopted a new logo which was a combined “J” with and “S” which looked kind of like whirlpools bumping into each other (actually spinning in opposite directions-  something you never see in real nature...) I used this logo for over 10 years and my paddles continued to be referred to as “JimiStyx”. This is the Jimistyx logo:

But finally I decided I really wanted my paddles to be called “RivrStyx” in deference to the river. The paddles are really all about the river- not me.  So I used my prerogative and changed the name back and created the new logo I use today:

It’s an “R” and an “S” combined- for obvious reasons.  So- I’m happy now and I’ll stick with this logo.

And now you know...
