Creeking Blades

Stew Caldwell going with the Flo.

The Flo

Creeks are a demanding environment.  Most paddlers prefer a lot of blade in a small package and often they want the paddle to ‘stick’ a little more in the water than what they would like for Cruising applications. There’s two ways to get more torque- a longer shaft or a bigger blade.

Most people buying paddles for creeking really like the Flo because it has so much grab in shallow areas- like slides and it has plenty of blade for bigger water situations.

The Riot Styk has pretty much the same size blade- but is articulated so it applies better to surfing and rodeo as well. Although the Riot Styk doesn’t have the initial grab of the Flo or the same purchase at low angles of attack.

Here you can see how the Flo blade compares to the Cruising Blade.

The Cruising is also a good choice because it is the lightest strongest blade I have.  It is the smallest blade too- so you adjust your torque by lengthening the shaft.

The Cruising Blade- compact and strong.

Or- if you are used to big blades or curved powerfaces- consider these Racing blades.
