Bent     Shafts

Every year I get a few requests for bent shafted paddles.  I don’t make them because I believe you should shift your hands for different amounts of torque as you paddle and I don’t believe the paddle maker should dictate where you hands need to go all the time.  Plus bent shafts only help your wrist angle in the first third- the “catch” part of the stroke.  But then they force you into less-than optimal wrist geometry for the rest of the stroke as well as for steering strokes like Duffeks and backstrokes.

Non-the-less a lot of people still prefer bent shafts and so, if you do, I would refer you to Blunt Family paddles on the west coast.  They make fine wood paddles with bent shafts on request. And I think their quality is superior to most wood paddles in the world.
